Blue precipitate from copper solution

Copper sulfate and sodium phosphate solutions combine to give a gelatinous precipitate of copper phosphate.  When excess sodium phosphate is added, a basic solution forms giving a darker blue tint to the mixture.  What is happening to give the darker blue color?

Introductory chemistry makes a good start

Introductory chemistry has investigated the densities of pennies and is currently growing large crystals of copper sulfate.  Students are using the moodle account to get assignments and links to online resources.  The moodle account has proven invaluable to the many students who miss classes due to sickness, sports or other events.

Stoichiometry

Stoichiometry deals with quantities involved in chemical reactions.  The law of conservation of mass tells us that matter is not created or destroyed during chemical reactions.  The law of definite proportions tells us that specific substances are composed of the same elements in the same proportions by mass.  Because of these laws, we can predict both accurately and consistently the quantities of substances and energy involved in chemical reactions.
